TOPIC: Media professionals play an essential role in building democratic societies by informing, investigating, contextualizing facts, and stimulating public debate. In an era marked by the speed of information, disinformation, social media, and artificial intelligence, their work demands a permanent commitment to ethics, editorial independence, and social responsibility. Journalists, reporters, photographers, cinematographers, cartoonists, illustrators, editors, radio broadcasters, and other communicators face increasingly greater challenges in the face of technological transformations that redefine how news is produced, distributed, and consumed. Those who inform the world are also under judgment. Between facts, versions, algorithms, interests, censorship, and the avalanche of false information, media professionals daily grapple with the challenge of distinguishing facts from noise, information from manipulation, and the public interest from private interests. In times when anyone can publish and millions can share, what, ultimately, is the role of the press? Where does freedom of expression end and responsibility begin? How to preserve ethics, credibility, and independence in the face of political, economic, and technological pressures? This theme invites cartoonists from Brazil and abroad to offer a critical, humorous, and intelligent look at those who record history as it happens. After all, when news becomes spectacle, silence becomes strategy, and lies gain speed, humor remains one of the sharpest ways to reveal the truth. More than discussing journalism, this theme proposes reflecting on the relationship between information, power, freedom, truth, and society, offering a wide field for satire, criticism, and humor.
